The Institute of Krav Maga Scotland recently hosted a Kettlebell seminar at our Krav Maga Centre with IKMF Global Team Instructor Amnon Darsa. Amnon, who is an Expert level 5 Krav Maga instructor, is a firm advocate of Kettlebell training as a means to develop and complement Krav Maga Training.
In addition to teaching Krav Maga around the world, Amnon is also an RKC certified kettlebell instructor. In the 2 hour seminar Amnon demonstrated the basic principles and techniques required to train safely with Kettlebells. He began the seminar with an interesting history of the use of Kettlebells, with participants being surprised to learn that it may have had its origins in Scotland! Boulder tossing at Highland Games may have been where the techniques originated before being further developed by workers in Russia.
Amnon began with the basics, demonstrating safe handling techniques and the reminder that "fast feet are happy feet!" referring to the potential of getting a foot crushed by what essentially is 24Kg lump of metal!
The seminar progressed at a lively pace with Amnon covering the basic double handed swing, single handed swing, the clean, the military press before concluding with the Turkish getup.
Participants where then put through there paces with a series of exercises incorporating most of the techniques covered throughout the evening.

The seminar was a resounding success with feedback from the IKMS members very positive. We look forward to welcoming Amnon back again soon to expand on what he taught.
The Institute of Krav Maga Scotland Health and Fitness Consultant, Davey Jenkins, is also a firm believer in the merits of Kettlebell training to enhance Krav Maga Training.
Davey recently gained Certified Kettelbell Teacher status with the IKFF (International Kettlebell & Fitness Federation) and will soon be undertaking the RKC Instructor training.
Davey has written an article on the benefits of Kettlebell training and how it relates to Krav Maga in particular.
Davey is available to all IKMS members for advice on Kettlebell training and will soon be holding a series of classes for beginners. Contact Davey for advice or to arrange training.
