What can I expect in a Krav Maga class?

What should I wear to a Krav Maga class?

All you need is a T shirt, tracksuit bottoms/training trousers, and training shoes.

Regular students and Instructors wear official IKMF uniforms consisting of a black T shirt with white logos (Instructors are red), and black kickboxing type trousers with white logos (again, Instructors are red).

Krav Maga Grading System

altThe Krav Maga grading system is divided into 4 categories; these are:-

  • Practitioner
  • Graduate
  • Expert
  • Master

Each level has its own badges of merit and are colour coded as shown here.

All Institute of Krav Maga Scotland students are able to attend regular gradings held here in the UK.

All gradings are conducted by the expert members of the KMG global training team.

The Institute of Krav Maga Scotland holds extensive and detailed pre-grading training as well as a mock grading to ensure students are fully prepared well in advance.

In order to test for their first grade, students need to have been training in the Krav Maga system for a minimum of 3 months prior to the date of the grading.


Practitioner Level (P1-P5)

Graduate Level (G1-G5)

Expert Level (E1-E5)

International Krav Maga FederationThe Institute of Krav Maga Scotland is the largest International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) affiliated organisation in Scotland, and one of only 2 organisations in Scotland who are part of the IKMF.

Krav Maga means 'contact combat' in Hebrew and is a general term recognised as the most effective and reality tested self defense system in the world.

The History of Krav Maga

Imi Lichtenfeld - founder of Krav MagaKrav-Maga was created and developed by Imi Sde-or (Lichtenfeld), Israeli Grand-master (1910-1998) who started KM in the late 1940's whilst serving as Chief Instructor for hand to hand combat and combat fitness training for the Israeli Defence Forces.

Imi, as a young man growing up in Bratislava, Slovakia, was a champion boxer, a top-level wrestler, and an expert in judo/jujitsu.

Krav Maga can be seen as an essential Life Skill which is easy to learn, with practitioners becoming very proficient in a short space of time.
