Very good effort tonight folks and great to see so many new faces.  Just a quick reminder about what we covered and some pointers:

Rhythm – always be aware of the rhythm between your defences and/or strikes.  It’s so important in improving your timing and your ability to spot opportunities in counter attacking.  For the more experienced students, a good exercise is to think about the various techniques we use, basic or otherwise, and try to identify what rhythm is used throughout and why – Disconnected/Natural/Broken/Shattered/Simultaneous.

Circular attacks – Hooks and uppercuts.  Remember these strikes start with good footwork, then the body, then the hands.  Practice the footwork and body movement at least as much as the actual punch!

360′s – Remember lean slightly towards the attacking hand with your defence and get a good, accurate (simultaneous!) counter attack – don’t bend too far forward at the waist or you risk over reaching and losing power and accuracy in both your defence and counter.  If you’re too far away for a hand defence, consider kicks – if escape isn’t an option.

Lastly, always remember that these defences (we looked at the front and side) are based on your NATURAL REACTION in any given situation – it’s a good place to start if your unsure of the technique!

Well done guys!

Till next time, same place, stay safe!

Scott
