Krav Maga for fun and fitness : not fear

Category: Uncategorized IKMS Team @ 1:42 pm

There has been a lot of media coverage recently regarding the 6 separate incidents of sexual attacks in Glasgow since the start of the year.

The attacks , apparently unrelated, have sparked debate over how safe our streets are after dark, and in particular the threat posed to females. BBC Radio Scotland had a phone in discussion on the subject on Friday where a self defence instructor (not Krav Maga), a senior officer from Strathclyde Police, and members of the public discussed whether or not women should learn self-defence. Back to Class!

Category: Uncategorized IKMS Team @ 3:50 pm

Finally getting back to class tonight! Between the weather and injury I have not taken a class in almost 3 weeks. Really looking forward to getting back, lots of new ideas I’m looking forward to trying.

In a few weeks time I am joining some of our students and fellow instructors on the IKMF Tour and Train in Israel. This will be my second time on the event and I cannot wait. My own training will step up considerably from now until we to ensure I am as fit a possible for the trip. Really looking forward to training with Avi and the GIT and visiting a few  friends. There is still time to join us if anyone is up for it!

What a week!

Category: Uncategorized IKMS Team @ 3:52 pm

Sorry,I have not been able to write on here for over a week now.

Last Saturday saw the start of the IKMF Civilian Instructor Course in Scotland. The first part of the course was 9 days long and held at the Scottish Martial Arts Centre in Tullibody.

I attended as much of the course as I could and spent the rest of the week ferrying the instructors back and forth. Continue reading “What a week!”

Krav Maga Stirling Class

Category: Uncategorized IKMS Team @ 4:44 pm

Went to drop off some orders at the Stirling class night as Scott was covering me due to injury.

On the way in I bumped into an old friend and as I stood there exchanging pleasantries  my attention was drawn to our class which I could see through the window.

After bidding my friend farewell, I continued to stand and watch as Scott took a fairly busy class through some defences against slashes. Continue reading “Krav Maga Stirling Class”

On the mend!

Category: Uncategorized IKMS Team @ 12:22 pm

My foot is on the mend, it’s much better today, so hopefully won’t be too much longer before I am back training! There is never a good time to pick up an injury, but with my own opportunity to grade to the next level coming in a few weeks time, the timing could not be worse!

Time to cram in the last minute practice of the techniques in the G4 syllabus along with training with the rest of the guys on their respective syllabus. Going to be a busy few weeks!!

A good Krav Maga day out!

Category: Uncategorized IKMS Team @ 12:24 pm

Scott and I were lucky enough to be invited along to Master Sutherland’s Black Belt Academy (a TKD school) in Livingston on Sunday to conduct a weapons seminar for their members.

We took the guys through some basic knife threats and attacks before moving on to some basic disarms and restraints. It was a great day and we both thoroughly enjoyed it (despite the fact that I inured my foot while kicking Scott!) Continue reading “A good Krav Maga day out!”

Exciting Times in Krav Maga

Category: Uncategorized IKMS Team @ 2:51 pm

The last few months have been extremely busy for us and have seen IKMS go from strength strength. The “In The club” seminar was a resounding success with fantastic feedback form all that attended. (we are already planning the next one!).

The weekend just past saw the IKMF grading held at the Scottish Martial Arts Centre in Tullibody with Avi Moyal, the IKMF chairman conducting a very memorable seminar on a Bus and student testing. Photos and video will follow soon. Continue reading “Exciting Times in Krav Maga”

Alloa Class 23rd September

Category: Training,Uncategorized Scott @ 8:50 am

Excellent class last night guys, good effort with a range of different weapons and situations.

Just to recap, we started with stances – passive, semi-passive and fighting stance, then moving around in fighting stance – it’s very important to keep this in mind throughout all classes – it’ll tighten up all your techniques.

The we moved on to 360 defences and added knives – remember don’t get caught in a pattern of attacks and defences when training – vary the tempo, that way the attack becomes more unpredictable improves your reaction time. Continue reading “Alloa Class 23rd September”
