Bathgate Class 25/01/12

Category: Krav Maga Classes Scott @ 8:00 am

Very good effort tonight folks and great to see so many new faces.  Just a quick reminder about what we covered and some pointers:

Rhythm – always be aware of the rhythm between your defences and/or strikes.  It’s so important in improving your timing and your ability to spot opportunities in counter attacking.  For the more experienced students, a good exercise is to think about the various techniques we use, basic or otherwise, and try to identify what rhythm is used throughout and why – Disconnected/Natural/Broken/Shattered/Simultaneous.

Circular attacks – Hooks and uppercuts.  Remember these strikes start with good footwork, then the body, then the hands.  Practice the footwork and body movement at least as much as the actual punch!

360′s – Remember lean slightly towards the attacking hand with your defence and get a good, accurate (simultaneous!) counter attack – don’t bend too far forward at the waist or you risk over reaching and losing power and accuracy in both your defence and counter.  If you’re too far away for a hand defence, consider kicks – if escape isn’t an option.

Lastly, always remember that these defences (we looked at the front and side) are based on your NATURAL REACTION in any given situation – it’s a good place to start if your unsure of the technique!

Well done guys!

Till next time, same place, stay safe!

Scott

Below you will find links to each of the Practitioner and Graduate syllabus. These are an excellent reference to help monitor you’re progress (obviously no substitute for regular training and instructor feedback!)

If you need any help understanding the technique description in any of the syllabus, please feel free to contact us, or ask your instructor at the next class.

Get fighting fit in 2012 with Krav Maga!

Category: IKMS View IKMS Team @ 2:18 pm

IKMS are committed to providing the very best in Krav Maga training and a firm foundation is essential.

We offer specially designed Induction sessions for all potential new members.

The Induction sessions are special sessions designed solely for beginners. The 2 hour sessions focus on providing beginners with all the basic skills and information the will need to go and join the regular classes.

The obvious advantage of using the induction sessions is that everyone in the session is a novice! This allows the instructors to start from the very basics, building confidence and skill levels quickly.

The IKMS instructors conducting the session will take time to establish the participants reasons for coming to Krav Maga and help them develop a plan to achieve their own specific goals. So if your looking to get a fitter, need to learn self defence skills for work, develop confidence, or simply want to have fun trying something new, IKMS will help you.

The fun and informative induction sessions are available at all our venues on a regular basis. Book your Krav Maga Induction now!

2012 Here we come!!!!

Category: IKMS View IKMS Team @ 4:44 pm

2012 is here!!

Many of us will have been through, or going through the process of making our New Year resolutions. Full of good intentions and enthusiasm for the year ahead we promise ourselves to train harder, loose weight, lift more, run longer, swing heavier, or whatever the goal may be. How many of us will have stuck to the resolution by March?

Unfortunately many of us have difficulty sticking to the resolutions, not because we lack the desire or motivation, but  because we fail to structure and plan to achieve or goals.

Why not ask your instructor to help you set and devise a plan for how to achieve your Krav Maga related goals?  The IKMS team will be more than happy to help you and will work with you to help you make sure your Krav Maga resolutions become a reality!!

Stay Safe!!

Gloves and Krav Maga?

Category: IKMS View John Miller @ 12:11 am

Depending on who you ask, you’ll get several different answers to the question “What is Krav Maga?” some will say “it’s a defensive tactics system”,  some will say  “it’s an Israeli Martial Art” , and maybe some will say  “it’s a self defence system”.

Of course they are all correct, Krav Maga can be defined in a number of different ways (please share your thoughts on how Krav Maga should be defined).

Got the Krav Maga bug? Beware of overtraining!

Category: IKMS View IKMS Team @ 12:04 pm

Krav Maga training can be surprisingly addictive! Both new and experienced Krav Maga practitioners can fall into the trap of over-training. IKMS classes are 2hrs long, very structured, and contain a variety of exercise and drills designed to improve general fitness, strength, speed, power, and flexibility. We design the class syllabus and structure to allow members to attend up to 5 sessions per week without over-training.

Problems tend to arise when overly keen individuals (I have done it myself in the past!) add additional personal training on top of the regular classes.
