Profile of David Jenkins, Sports Therapist

david Jenkins

Name:  David Jenkins
Age: 41
Married: yes to Dawn
Children: yes – Millie 5 , Blair 2 ½
Occupation: PEI SPS – Sports Therapist BSc Hons
Stirling

I have been employed as a Physical education Instructor for 15 years, Sports Therapist 8 Years Bsc Hons. Studied Universtiy of Teesside.

I’ve always enjoyed physical education and martial arts from a young age. I’ve participated in various sports, Rugby (Stirling County) Karate – Shotokan Dan grade , amateur football and Olympic Weightlifting.

I took an interest in sports injuries and rehabilitation in my mid 20’s due to having musco-skeletal problems of my own.

I studied part time doing a diploma in Sports Therapy then on completion enrolled in Year 2 at the University of Teesside on Bsc Hons course.

During the degree I researched and presented papers on Flexibility – specificity, nutrition for endurance and the effectiveness of the type of stretching when applied to power exercises.

The degree course taught me to ensure that it is vitally important that evidence based practice is applied whenever possible and embrace the science aspect of sport. This doubled with my physical education qualifications has ensured a full package is available to all my clients concerning injury, rehabilitation and fitness.

I take an interest in examining and dissecting various sports with a view of improving training methods. This of course is done with the assistance and expertise of the relevant instructors / coaches. I strive to ensure functional exercises are applied wherever possible. This will hopefully assist in the reduction of injury due to non - specific training methods and of course improve performance of the athletes concerned.

I have extensive experience in dealing with the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. I currently work with varying levels of society from martial artists to full time professional golfers and football players.

I have worked in the SPL with Falkirk FC, I currently assist with Dunfermline Athletic FC and I provide cover for the treatment for all the strongmen athletes during “Scotland’s Strongest Man “on a yearly basis.

Having known John Miller Krav Maga instructor and friend for 15 years I am very excited at being given the opportunity of offering a service to his Krav Maga students and who knows, I may join in the training as well!

I have an Injury clinic in Doune and Stirling city centre. Both have easy access and each 30 minutes from Glasgow or Edinburgh.
