Getting Started in Krav Maga - FAQ's

F.A.Q’s

Our expert team of instructors are always available to answer any questions you may have regarding beginning Krav Maga training, or the induction process, and can be contacted by phone 01259 726681 or by email. However, from experience we have listed the most common questions we get from new  prospective Krav Maga students

Q1.    Do I need to be fit?

A.    No. Krav Maga is for everyone, regardless of fitness. Your fitness will certainly improve as Krav Maga is a fantastic way to get fit and stay in shape, but how you progress is up to you. The emphasis in the class is on learning effective self defence, with fitness being a welcome by-product (you’ll be amazed how quickly your fitness will improve !) You will be asked privately during the Induction process to declare any existing injuries or medical conditions, if the instructors have any concerns regarding your medical history they will ask you to consult your GP before commencing training.

Q2.    Am I to old to begin Krav Maga?

A.    Absolutely not!!!  Krav Maga really is for everyone. We have a wide range of ages in our classes. The minimum age is 18 (16 with parental consent) and no upper age limit. Our oldest student do date was an 84 year old lady! Obviously the intensity of training will vary with age and our expert instructors will help you train at a level that suits you.

Q3.    Do I need to sign a contract to join?

A.    No. We do not tie people into contracts. All payments are by Direct Debit, and all that is required to join IKMS and train with us regularly is that you complete a simple direct debit mandate. This can be cancelled at anytime with no notice period required.

Q4.    How long does it take to learn?

A.    That depends on the individual. Krav Maga really is simple to learn, and you will start to see progress from your very first class. Some people choose to train several times a week, others are happy with once, the more you train the quicker you will improve and learn.

Q5.    Will I get hurt?

A. No.  Safety is our number one priority. Any form of self defence or contact based training carries an element of risk of injury, but our expert instructors will ensure your safety is paramount at all times. As you  progress you may wish to start training in fighting drills that involve higher levels of contact, but these are optional and you must have attained a level of competency before we will allow you to participate. Insurance and Full protective equipment are mandatory before commencing this type of training.

Q6. Can I start anytime?

A. Yes. All you have to do is attend one of our Induction sessions. These are held regularly across all our venues. The induction will furnish you with the basic information you need to attend the regular classes, simply sign up for and complete the induction and then you are free to attend any of our classes.

Q7. What should I wear/bring to the induction?

A. All you need is regular sports type clothing. A T-shirt, comfortable training trousers or shorts, and training shoes will suffice. We strongly recommend groin protection. This can be purchased from most sports shops or can be purched online at www.mykravmaga.com
